As a veterinarian, Alexa has a habit of giving to charity, most of them benefitting animal shelters. Not only giving them money and helping out, but also taking animals in herself.
Back in California, they owned three cats, two dogs and a couple of birds between her and her fiance. They are what Alexa misses the most now that she's moved to New York. She couldn't take them with her and had to leave them behind. The only good thing is that at least she knows that Todd is taking good care of them.
But it's not only those three cats she had to leave behind that she misses, but also the ones she was nursing in the past years. Some of them old or sick - destined to die in the animal shelter.
Tabby is the cat that she is missing the most. A grey cat, already ten years old when she got her. Being too old for most people to want to take her in, Tabby was very grateful and Alexa got attached to her pretty soon. She had her problems, was almost blind on one eye and not as agile anymore. But under Alexa's and Todd's care, she was living two more years. Two years in which she was loved and has been taken care of. Alexa didn't know what her history was, but she knew that whatever happened before - at least Tabby's last two years on Earth were spent in happiness.
